Japanese Cedar

Soft pale creamy-yellow leaves gives this beautiful conifer a relaxed and graceful look.

Cryptomeria 'Sekkan-sugi' has an intense bright cream colour in the summer which then becomes yellow-green in the winter ensuring a spectacular display all year round. This slow growing 1930's American variety of the Japanese cedar makes a beautiful conical evergreen tree that can reach over 8m in height. 'Sekkan-sugi' immediately attracts attention, especially in winter when the rest of the garden is darker and resting. Looking great in a pot or container, as a specimen in the ground or making a striking hedge there's an array of uses for this award winning conifer. Plant Care & Advice

Cryptomeria 'Sekkan-sugi' is best grown in full sun or partial shade in a sheltered spot and is happy in any aspect (North, South, East or West). The soil should ideally be a deep loam that holds moisture and often it grows best in the South West of England and in Ireland where rainfall is higher than in many other parts. This very architectural plant looks great in a mixed border, as a specimen or as an architectural piece in a formal planting scheme.

Water well in its first growing season and then after this water occasionally in very dry spells, to also aid establishment feed occasionally in the first year after planting. Pruning is not required but if planted as a hedge it should be trimmed twice per year in spring and autumn.
