The delightful, cupped, medium-sized flowers of 'The Lark Ascending' contain approximately twenty petals of a warm apricot shade with a golden centre. On the bush, the blooms are grown from the ground upwards, in heads of up to 15 neatly spaced flowers, creating a beautiful effect. The scent varies from rose to rose, from tea to myrrh. This rose repeat flowers well and makes a lovely addition to indoor arrangements.
Voted Britain's Favourite by listeners of Desert Island Discs on BBC Radio 4, The Lark Ascending was composed by Ralph Vaughan Williams in 1914, and premiered in 1921.
The Lark Ascending' is an excellent rose of exceptional health and vigorous habit. It is a perfect choice for a mixed border with hardy plants, where the different plants will complement each other beautifully.
Roses thrive on sunshine, ideally a minimum of four hours each day to perform their best. However, roses can still perform well in shadier locations, with selected varieties suitable for growing against a north wall.
Roses can be planted year round, but avoid doing so when the ground is frozen, waterlogged or in periods of drought. Dusting the roots with Mycorrhizal Fungi when planting will aid establishment. Allow your rose plenty of space to develop to its best, sited away from intense competition of trees & hedges.
Apply a thick layer of mulch around the base of the plant in early spring to help retain moisture and help keep competing weeds at bay. Gently fork rose fertiliser into the soil surface and continue to water well throughout the growing season. Dead-head flowers to encourage fresh new blooms to follow.
