Tree Heather

This low-maintenance tree heather will provide year-round colour and height to the garden and is particularly useful for dry, acid soils.

Erica arborea 'Albert's Gold' is a highly attractive tree heather with upright growth displaying  feathery leaves and delicate, bell-shaped, white flowers produced somewhat sparsely in early spring. This award-winning hardy heather is prized for its resilience, reliability and year-round structural display. Much taller than many other heather varieties, it reaches an eventual height up to 2.5m. Its larger size means it makes a striking contrast if planted among clumps of lower growing, spreading heathers or airy, soft ornamental grasses. Grown mainly for its year-round bushy greenery and structure, 'Albert's Gold' also has some attractive highlights, including young foliage which emerges golden-yellow throughout the growing season giving a pretty, two-tone effect, and the elegant display of small white flowers during spring which attract bees.

Colourful golden foliage matures to green, giving a lovely two-tone effect. Ideal for planting in borders in dry or exposed sites.

Plant Care & Advice

Erica arborea 'Albert's Gold' is best grown in beds and borders in a sunny position where the golden foliage will be a feature throughout the year. Happy in sheltered or exposed locations.

This variety thrives in well-drained acid soil. If you don't have acid soil, you can grow it in a large container filled with ericaceous compost.

This heather prefers dry conditions, but will require regular watering to begin with to help settle the roots. Once established, this variety will require hardy andy watering, unless planted in a container in which case it should be watered sparingly if it becomes very dry.

Trim back lightly after flowering to maintain a neat, bushy habit.
