Chinese Juniper

Juniperus 'Pyramidalis' is a graceful conifer, that forms a neat column of striking steel blue needles.

This dense slow growing shrub uniquely retains its juvenile foliage giving it a fresh and striking look throughout the year. Its dense compact  branches feather upwards helping to give a soft and gentle feel as they sway in the breeze. Up to 1m tall Juniperus 'Pyramidalis' is an architectural 'stop' amongst other low growing plants in a border and in a rock garden or gravel bed it provides height and contrast to other scrambling plants.  In a pot or as a specimen grown on its own Juniperus 'Pyramidalis' has a number of different uses, making it one of the most popular Juniperus chinensis cultivars, and its no surprise that the RHS awarded the plant an AGM award in 2002.

This stunning compact conifer provides architectural impact and texture for years to come with little attention or maintenance required.

Plant Care & Advice

Juniperus 'Pyramidalis' is useful in hot sunny sites but will also grow in part-shaded areas. It is a robust species, growing in any aspect and will tolerate windy locations.

With its tall stature it looks great in rock gardens or gravel beds where it can be very architectural, as a specimen or in a pot it's striking colour really makes it stand out.

When planting in a pot use a good soil based compost with added grit for drainage. In the ground water well in it's first growing season and then once established it should be drought hardy and need very little care. Applying a well balanced liquid feed occasionally in its first growing season will also help Juniperus 'Pyramidalis' establish well.

Once established pruning is not needed except to remove any wayward branches that detract from its columnar shape, these can be cut back to their base in spring.
