Western Red Cedar

Neat flattened sprays of dense foliage give this conifer a lovely velvety appearance that cries out to be touched.

Thuja 'Little Boy' is a compact dwarf variety of western red cedar forming a neat rounded shrub eventually reaching 90cm (3ft) in height. This shrub is green in the centre, golden yellow at the tips of the shoots that turn a warm bronze-orange in cold winter weather.  Its compact growth makes this conifer extra special, with an oval shape and slow growth habit leading to the name 'Little Boy'. It is well behaved needing very little attention and can be trimmed into a uniform hedge that grows very slowly and is a great alternative to Box. Makes a striking specimen grown on its own or fits in well with other conifers or flowering plants. It is very hardy and needing little maintenance this little boy can be left alone without worry or fuss.

Soft green foliage and a low rounded shape make this a very well behaved and attractive little boy.

Plant Care & Advice

Thuja 'Little Boy' is best grown in full sun or partial shade needing higher light levels to colour well and keep a good shape.

Best growing in South, West or East facing aspects and should be sheltered from cold drying winds when young and establishing. Great as an evergreen hedge, in a container and in mixed borders it grows best in a moist but well drained soil where it will not sit in very wet conditions.

Water during dry periods in it's first year but needs little watering afterwards, in a pot water regularly especially in dry weather. Needs little feeding, occasional feeding in the first year can help with establishment.

No pruning needed other than to shape if required and this could be done once per year in autumn or spring as needed.
